About Us
We offer traditional methods of treatment that successfully address a wide range of medical, movement, cognitive, and behavioral disorders. But we are also much more.
Within our practice is an active brain research facility, which has pioneered the development of a unique, scientific treatment therapy called Cortical Integrative Therapy (CIT®). This multidisciplinary approach to healing is changing the way that many brain-based disorders and brain injuries are treated. Instead of managing the symptoms of those disorders, we identify and can often cure the root cause of the problem. We have state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and more than 20 years of experience treating a broad spectrum of physical and brain-based disorders, traumatic brain injuries, automobile and work-related injuries, and the discomforts of chronic pain. We also have the ability to assess and reduce the risk of falling in seniors. See the drop down menu for more information about this important service. What all of this means for you is that we're able not only to diagnose your problem and increase your physical function or alleviate your pain, but also to significantly improve your quality of life.
Our professional and courteous staff will diagnose and design an individualized treatment plan to meet your specific needs. At Rhode Island Integrated Medicine, we offer a wide range of services including therapeutic rehabilitation, behavioral therapy, cognitive therapy, vision therapy, auditory therapy, vestibular therapy, chiropractic, and nutritional counseling.
If you are in need of therapeutic rehabilitation, your treatment program might involve spinal stabilization, theratubing, therabands, hand and ankle-strengthening activities, exercise balls, rocker and wobble boards, optokinetic therapy, and vestibular therapy.
We are particularly proud of the results that we achieved in applying CIT® to help a patient to regain functional use of an arm that had been severed in an industrial accident.
The results of our work co-authored by Dr. Victor M. Pedro were published in 2008 by the New England Hand Society in an abstract titled Hand Replantation: Functional Results (3 Cases). The abstract concludes that "The patient that received cortical integrative therapy demonstrated better overall function suggesting that cortical configurations in the brain-central nervous system and hand can be externally influenced and even partially restored in the case of hand replantations."
Using our multidisciplinary approach to healing, we are able to successfully treat a wide range of painful and debilitating problems bringing immediate and long-term relief for:

Assessment, Diagnosis, and Treatment
Assessment: Our patients receive a comprehensive intake evaluation that includes medical, neurological, cognitive, visual, behavioral, chiropractic, and functional assessments. We also conduct assessments relating to eye movement, hearing, and measurement of airflow in the lungs.Diagnosis: Based on the results of the intake assessment, we design a treatment strategy that will most benefit the patient. Treatment strategies are developed on an individualized basis - unique to each patient and his particular evaluation.
Treatment: Our uniquely trained therapists administer each individualized treatment program. In addition, patients may be required to do "homework" -- a series of daily individualized assignments and exercises -- which convert short-term gains into long-term, permanent change. This activity is absolutely critical in achieving maximum sustainable results. Treatment may also include educational sessions for family members. Family can be a critical component if changes in the home environment - for example, changes in diet and nutrition or reinforcement of repetitive exercises -- must be made in order to maximize results for the patient.
Restoring Hope One Patient at a Time
We understand how a brain-based disorder, traumatic brain injury, or a chronic physical ailment can affect your life or the lives of your loved ones.We have achieved a high rate of success due in part to our methods and our team, but also to our comprehensive screening process - we accept only highly motivated patients who we know we can help. Our goal is to help you get on with the business of life - living every day to the fullest.
We believe that every one of our patients has the potential to improve the quality of their lives. But more than anything, we believe in restoring hope and peace-of-mind one patient at a time.
